Tufa Troughs and Planters

One day workshop-- Take home your planter that day! Experience the magic of
"tufa", a type of lightweight cement that can be molded into garden vessels that
look like limestone."Tufa" is a porous and is beneficial for plant growth, so it
is a wonderful plant container. In this workshop, you will create light-weight
planters for your outside garden using cardboard boxes or baskets as molds. You
can make 2 or 3 planters, so this is a great price and you get to make them
yourself. Planters are lighter than clay or concrete and can withstand harsh
winters. Families can pay one price and work on their troughs together!  Supply list.


Stepping Stones

Create your own customized garden stone using concrete, stained glass
and other  found objects. Inscriptions can also be added. Each student
may make up to two.  Family may register together for one price.

Patio Pots and Planters

Create two ceramic pots or one planter for inside or outside! In the first part of the class, create your pots. Come to the second part of the workshop to let your imagination "germinate" with a variety of glazes so that you can customize your containers for your home. All Materials included. Wear old clothes!

Tea Leaf Reading

During the first day of this workshop, learn the ancient art of
tea leaf reading as you design your own unique tea cup and sample exotic teas.
Return in two weeks to glaze your piece and practice your new skills as a tea
leaf reader!

Hanging Wire "Bird Nests"

Create a hanging wire basket/nest from copper and aluminum colored wire and
threaded with glass beads, semi-precious stones, or your own beads/found
objects. Great for holding light objects or catching the sun in a window! Bring
one pair of needle-nosed pliers. Bring gloves if you are concerned about
accidental "pokes" as you work. (Includes enough wire for everyone to finish
their small basket.)

Hand Stamped Jewelry Workshop

Create a one of a kind necklace and bangle for yourself or a gift for someone
special! This beginners workshop will teach the basic techniques for hand
stamped lettering on metals and how to add textures  Make and take two metal
pieces for a necklace (Chain provided) or key ring and a bangle. So join Patty

Hand Stamped Silverware Garden Markers

What a fantastic gift idea with planting season approaching! Spend the afternoon creating personalized garden markers as a gift to your favorite green thumb, or for yourself! "CHIVES"; "CARROTS"; etc. and add that personal touch "MOM'S BASIL"; "DAD'S TOMATOES"; "GRANDMA'S FAVORITE"; "TRESPASSERS WILL BE COMPOSTED" any garden saying can be done! Must come to class with spoons in the amount desired to hammer. 6 is a good amount, ANY SIZE. Must be silver or silver plated so that the spoons can be flattened easier. No stainless steel please! FREE Enameling Workshop

Enameling--Whats it all about?
It's a little bit like magic when glass enamel particles are applies to a metal shape and put into a very hot kilk (>1500 Degrees F) and in just a few minutes you have a beautifully colored result emerge.
Sandy will share the processes of this exciting craft which has a long history--from pots and pans to oriental cloisonne' to Fabrege Eggs to contemporary architectural works in this free workshop. Those who wish may stay an additional hour to try their hand at a mini-message board for a supply fee of $5.00. Space is limited so register soon!

Beginning Weaving on the Loom

Make a reservation through the Valley Art Center. $90 for six one hour individual sessions with instructor Elaine Levin. This class is designed for beginning level weaving on a 4 harness loom. Elaine is an accomplished weaver and member of Cuyahoga Weaver's Guild. She studied under Dorothy Gregg. Learn to create a scarf or place-mats  Learn part of the loom and terminology, warping and tensioning, project design and finishing techniques. Basic yarn is included. Bring a notebook. The class is held at Hamlet Hillside Apartments. The instructor will arrange a class that is convenient for you. 

Lampworking/Fusing Beginning to Advanced

All materials, supplies, use of tools, and equipment are provided. Students need to bring a sack lunch and beverage, note taking materials, an open mind and enthusiasm. Please wear cotton clothing and closed toe and heel shoes. Classes may be scheduled Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays with advanced notice. My studio is located in Auburn Township, just 15 minutes from downtown Chagrin Falls. Directions are provided as necessary.
